• New Entrance to Equity Building! 01/03/2013  5:05pm

I thought I would share this info for those of you who are not on the AEA e-mail list.
    ***********************************
Major renovations and improvements will be made to the Equity Building located at West 46 Street.

These improvements will start Monday, January 7th when the first phase of the building's lobby renovations begins. This first phase of work will close off the current entrance and, effective January 7th, a new entrance will be created through the Times Square Visitors Center on 7th Avenue between West 46th and West 47th Streets. The Visitors Center is situated between McDonalds and the Palace Theater. Once inside, there will be clear signage that indicates the way to the elevators. Our building's door-staff will be located at the entry to the elevator lobby. The practice of lining up outdoors to sign up for EPA Auditions will continue on West 46th Street near the old building entrance.

So wait. Just to clarify. If I'm not equity and I want to line up for an audition on Monday morning (1/7), do I go to the new or old entrance? Also, when does the AEA building open?

On MONDAY (and until further notice), members AND non-members should continue to line up by the OLD entrance. When they are ready for us upstairs, a monitor will come down and lead everyone up through the new entrance. If you arrive after the building has opened (audit center opens at 7:30 am in the winter, but there eight be a slight delay Monday as all is figured out), follow the instructions above to the new entrance.

So again, for now - 46th street as usual for early lines. START of line will be in "old" location. Just don't be freaked out if it is all boarded up.

Here is the official e-mail equity sent out to its members: (which may or may not have ended up in people's junk mail folder - that's where it was hiding out in mine.)

    Dear Member,

I am writing to let you know that major renovations and improvements will be made to the Equity Building located at West 46 Street. We expect this work to take up to 2 years.

The Equity Offices, including Membership and Auditions, and VITA are all open for business as usual and will not be affected during the renovations. The practice of lining up outdoors to sign up for EPA Auditions will continue on West 46th Street near the old building entrance.

We will update you on the progress of this work through email and stories in Equity News.

    More soon,

Tim at the AEA audition center mentioned on Friday that they hope to find a way to allow people to line up inside the new lobby area, but he also said what was said above, that for now the line should start in the old place.
