• General Question about Audition Season @ 03/13/2018  10:02am

I'm new to NYC auditioning and was wondering a general timeline for "audition season" as so many call it.

It seems like audition season for summer rep usually starts around February and ends mid-April?

How slow does it get after audition season for summer rep is over? I'm just wondering a general idea so I can plan my life accordingly... Thanks y'all! Appreciate it!

Audition season usually ranges from January to April/May and after the volume of auditions simmer down as well as the volume of actors in the city meaning that the auditon lists don’t start as crazy early but rather at reasonable hours of the day. Hope this helps! I’ve been here several years and am speaking from the trends that I personally have noticed. I’m sure other people will have different opinions.

Thanks! On the bright side there won't be crazy list forming at 4-5 am :)

I guess I'm just hopeful there will still be work to audition for during the summer. Can definitely understand it simmering down, but hopefully it doesn't come to a crashing halt!

The beauty of being in NYC is that it never really comes to a crashing halt. It definitely slows down, but there’s always SOMETHING happening (even if it’s cruise ship auditions, showcases, something you’re not right for). I LOVE auditioning in the city in the summer because calls are much more civil, less people, less cray cray, you’re not running trying to get to 8 in one day, etc. If you’re like me and feed off of whatever the energy around you is, t’s when I tend to do my best because the vibe is just so much more relaxed, even from casting teams.
