Audition Update is moving. Click here to learn more.

Hello Everyone,

You’ve heard us talking about it all summer, and we’re finally ready to show you what we’ve been working on. I’m proud to announce that is moving to its new home on the Backstage Community.

What are the benefits of this new location? It’s anonymous, it's mobile-friendly, it’s easier to police spam content and fake accounts, and best of all, it has collapsed threads! In addition, our developer team will be able to make changes, fix bugs, and implement new features much faster and easier on this new platform.

You’ll notice there’s a banner across the top of the screen here advertising the new location. If you click through that link, it will bring you to the registration screen where you can create your account and automatically receive the “Veteran” flair for being an Audition Update user. Even if you already have a Backstage account, clicking through the link will grant you the flair automatically so everyone will know you’ve been here a while and know what you’re talking about.

We’ll be decommissioning this forum slowly over the coming weeks, so you should save any threads or details that you want to reference later at your earliest convenience.

We know this will really help to improve things here at Audition Update, and we want to thank you - the community - for being here with us through the whole process.

– The Backstage Community Team

    how's it moving for Alts/EMC?

    letsgo 03/21/2018  10:22am

    Bump on EMC question!

    poorwandring1 03/21/2018  10:27am

The monitor got both lists and scribbled all over the empty spots on them and said if you have friends wanting to show up to sign up tell them it’s closed.

    plzhalp 03/21/2018  10:40am

Have any emc or alt been called?

    Zedoj18 03/21/2018  10:43am

Do you think non-equity will be seen after lunch?

    Little Lumpia 03/21/2018  10:54am

That's very odd behavior on the monitors part. Even if the monitor doesn't expect to get to any EMC, s/he's not allowed to keep you from signing up (before lunch). Sounds like there's some miscommunication.

May someone post how many alts there are? Thx!

    ShimmerLights 03/21/2018  11:00am

    how are Alts/EMC moving?

    letsgo 03/21/2018  11:02am

It wasn’t the monitor’s decision to close the EMC/non-eq lists. The CD in the room asked to do it before the call started for some reason. They’ve called through half of EMC’s.

    st1763 03/21/2018  11:06am

Yeah... the monitor is absolutely not allowed to do that according to equity rules. If I was there, I would suggest going down to the equity office and telling them the situation.

    Pollywannacallback 03/21/2018  11:11am

Thanks for the updates! Who’s ITR?

    Don't Worry Your Ozness! 03/21/2018  11:12am

How many is half emc please? :)

    PleaseSirIWantSomeMore 03/21/2018  11:14am

19 out of 29 EMCs have been called as of 11.30am!

    BroadwayKiwi 03/21/2018  11:24am

ShimmerLights has been quoted in the holding room and is now famous. The monitor has just mentioned and clarified that casting can make the decision to close the EMC and or non-eq list at any point during or before the call.

    BroadwayKiwi 03/21/2018  11:32am

WHO IS IN THE ROOM?! this is important info since some of us won’t trek out depending on the answer.

    EilisFiorello 03/21/2018  11:34am

    ITR is
    Rikki Gimelstob casting
    Ian Axness accomp.

    BroadwayKiwi 03/21/2018  11:39am

Rikki Gimelstob is in the room. They’ve called up to 28 off the EMC list.

    JDaussie 03/21/2018  11:41am

I would call Equity because it's definitely against the rules to close the EMC list before lunch but still see people signed up.

    mm5252 03/21/2018  11:49am

Did anyone catch the name of the monitor for this call?

    strongmover2275 03/21/2018  11:59am

    Clarification after the confusion:

Monitor spoke with AEA. The EMC list cannot be physically closed (or have the empty spaces scrawled out etc) BUT casting can say that they only want to see X number of EMC people on that day.

Paraphrasing... a monitor can let extra EMCs sign up on the list and that monitor can tell them that they won’t be seen if their number is AFTER the number that casting has decreed they will see on that day.

So here today, more EMC can sign up but you won’t get seen.

    BroadwayKiwi 03/21/2018  12:02pm

Here is what happened: the people In the room can close the non eq list at any time. They cannot close the EMC list however they can specify that they only want to see a certain number of EMC- therefore everyone who signed up after that number would not be seen. This is what happened! So the EMC list is still “open” until lunch, however after a certain number (that has already been filled) they will not see anymore. I hope this helps!!

    iammoana 03/21/2018  12:03pm

    Snitches get stitches.

    BroadwayKiwi 03/21/2018  12:05pm

This monitor has been nothing but helpful, kind and (thankfully) has a great sense of humor. This confusion really wasn't his fault.

    thelightinthepizza 03/21/2018  12:06pm

    NO NON-EQ being seen!

There was a miscommunication and since they turned away & capped the EMC list they are not allowed to see Non-Eq.

Casting Dir told the monitor to apologize to all of us & say she wished she could see non-eq and will accept drop-offs.

Monitor was very upset about the mistake, and apologized profusely.

    Stay warm, stay kind!

    369damnurfine 03/21/2018  12:53pm

Non eq dismissed, drop offs are being accepted.
We love the monitor, he tried so hard for us and felt badly for the confusion which was not his fault.

    BroadwayKiwi 03/21/2018  12:54pm

Thank you for clarifying, Broadwaykiwi. So, it sounds as if – at least with regards to the EMCs – the main mistake the monitor made was in using the word “closed” instead of “limited” – right? Even though he knew casting would not be seeing EMCs beyond a certain number, he should have allowed EMCs to continue signing up – again, knowing full well they would not be seen? Yeah, he may have screwed up, but it sounds as if he was just trying to keep folks from wasting their time. I guess this also means that, even if casting has no intention of seeing EMCs, the EMC list must still always be on the table at any EPA since that is Equity policy and EMCs must be allowed to sign up even if the monitor knows they will not be seen? Confusing indeed.

    hmm 03/21/2018  7:19pm

Hey y'all. So I went through this issue at a Kinky Boots EPA recently. I emailed Equity about it and I have it in writing that no monitor OR casting personnel can choose not to see EMC if they are signed up before the halfway point of the call.

Whoever was there today and had this happen to them should definitely send an email to Equity and let them know that this issue is still being mishandled. It's literally the only perk of being EMC so it makes absolutely zero sense that any casting director or monitor could just choose to disregard it whenever they feel. Otherwise there's truly no point of even having an EMC program.

    Butmostlyme 03/22/2018  1:31am

@butmostlyme Let me just reiterate what BroadwayKiwi and others have explained. They were on the phone with Equity during the whole situation. Like 3-4 times. It was Equity that said no, you can't close the list but you CAN chose to limit how many EMCs you see so long as any past that desired number are not stopped from signing up. They even said that the monitor could tell EMCs they weren't going to be seen but they had to allow them to sign up.

    thelightinthepizza 03/22/2018  4:09am

To clarify when I say "they" were on the phone with Equity - I mean the monitor, and, by extension the casting director.
