To those who have auditioned for SETC: Is it expected to do a monologue from a play? I have a film monologue that I love but idk if they really care or not. Is it looked down upon? I'm also singing... Just thought I'd ask my fellow actors their thoughts. Thanks!!

Sorry, maybe this should've been put into a NAB post!

^^ Yeah, this should probably be a NAB under the BItching Post, fyi.
But, I have done SETC a few times, and I've seen people do all kinds of monologues... from plays, musicals, films, even TV. I've seen people do two songs, or two monologues. If you are a type that one of the theatres in attendance wants and can do what they need and are good, I don't think they care. I saw a lady do a monologue from Friends and get call backs. You do you, boo. Just keep it under 90 seconds (if you're non-eq).

Haha oops, sorry, didn't realize you replied that to yourself. :)

You can do ANYTHING for a monologue at these auditions. They like humorous stuff--the people who get the most callbacks at these things are actually the ones using material from monologue books, believe it or not. Even if your acting coach is horrified by that, don't listen to them. I learned the hard way. They don't want Shakespeare/Ibsen/whathaveyou, they want upbeat and simple because it's a LONG day.
