  • Therapists that prescribe anti depressants? 11/13/2017  5:04pm

i'm beyond depressed to the point where I can't hold a job and nobody will hire me. I've emailed / called many, many sliding scale therapy places, nobody calls me back, nobody responds. the few places have been booked up moths in advance. please. if anybody has any suggestions on where I can see somebody, talk to somebody, it very serious, i'm not doing well. i really need help

have you gone to an urgent care clinic? it might cost you money up front but they will usually give you some medication to hold you over until you are able to find a doctor. so so sorry you are dealing with this. please no you are not alone :)

look into talk space. It's an app that has many options for payments.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this, I think we have all been there at some point or another. This past summer I was dealing with a lot of anxiety to the point where I couldn't sleep. I went to my regular doc praying he would give me Xanex to help me sleep. He wouldn't, but he did prescribe me anti-anxiety meds and Ambien (during a separate visit). He is a wonderful, caring doctor, and I think his office accepts most insurance. His office is in Queens, if you're interested in getting his info I could e-mail you.

Also, look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Even if you can't see a therapist right now (I've improved majorly from reading and working on this stuff myself, as opposed to with a therapist, but that's me) Check out the book Mind Over Mood. You can find it on Amazon.

Take care of yourself and hang in there. EVERYONE has combatted depression/anxiety at some point in their lives (or will). Just remember, "this too shall pass", it's a cliche but it's true.

i dont have health insurance and i'm broke. i've been trying to get access to a therapist for over a year, i've exhausted every resource. free clinics books months in advance. other places simply don't get back to me. how is it possible that I have 0 accessibility to any type of mental health service? it's just crazy

sorry to hear you are struggling. You should reach out to the Actors Fund for mental health guidance. Also keep in mind that therapists don't prescribe medication; only a psychiatrist will do that. The Actors Fund likely has resources on how to go about finding the right place

This is totally not the same, and not a substitute for therapy, but the best thing you can do online RIGHT NOW (aside from booking therapy and contacting the Actors Fund) is try to listen to Tony Robbins and other mindful life coaches. It is not therapy, but it can help to change your state and get you in a better state.

This might be of some help.

Have you tried the M.I.N.D. Clinic at Columbia?

Also, I've heard that CSAB can help people of all diagnoses, not just those with eating disorders.

I am so sorry and can empathize with you. I contacted the Actor's Fund and they reached out to me within 24hrs. and I had an intake appointment right away. They then met with me as often as I needed while I was waiting for other more permanent therapists to call me back, all free of charge. Call them!

So sorry to hear, but I absolutely empathize with you.

You can also get a prescription for anti depressants from a PCP!!
