The original nasty comments on actors attempting Northern Irish accents was the most unpleasant thread I've read in a while. Part of our job as actors is to become other people, to risk, to go outside our comfort zone, not to just be ourselves on stage. We also should encourage other actors, this life is hard enough without people denigrating others. I spoke out against the nastiness and was immediately told I had no business doing so because I'm British and therefore could make no comment on people from Northern Ireland. I hope those people who wanted these roles so badly that they became thoroughly unpleasant get their roles, I hope, also, they are more tolerant of those in the cast who aren't from Northern Ireland and must rely on a dialect coach.
    Happy auditioning!
