Audition Update is moving. Click here to learn more.

Hello Everyone,

You’ve heard us talking about it all summer, and we’re finally ready to show you what we’ve been working on. I’m proud to announce that is moving to its new home on the Backstage Community.

What are the benefits of this new location? It’s anonymous, it's mobile-friendly, it’s easier to police spam content and fake accounts, and best of all, it has collapsed threads! In addition, our developer team will be able to make changes, fix bugs, and implement new features much faster and easier on this new platform.

You’ll notice there’s a banner across the top of the screen here advertising the new location. If you click through that link, it will bring you to the registration screen where you can create your account and automatically receive the “Veteran” flair for being an Audition Update user. Even if you already have a Backstage account, clicking through the link will grant you the flair automatically so everyone will know you’ve been here a while and know what you’re talking about.

We’ll be decommissioning this forum slowly over the coming weeks, so you should save any threads or details that you want to reference later at your earliest convenience.

We know this will really help to improve things here at Audition Update, and we want to thank you - the community - for being here with us through the whole process.

  • When Do You Put "Upcoming" Shows On Your Resume? 03/19/2018  11:07am

    Just a quick question.

If I have a contract that's 2 or 3 months away from now, can I still put "Upcoming" shows on my resume, or is it too soon or something? Or does it even matter?

    Just curious, thanks!

i put upcoming once i am in rehearsals but that is just me!

You can... I would wait until your show officially announces casting. Also worth considering: if the show conflicts with the one you're auditioning or submitting for, it may work against you, as people may think you'll be unavailable for their projects.

    sinsajo 03/19/2018  11:21am

@Sinsajo oh yeah I'd definitely wait until at LEAST they announced casting. I also wouldn't be auditioning for anything that conflicted because I like this contract haha so I guess generally, it's fine?

I have a list of Recent Auditions on my resume where I include the title, producing theatre, role, and who I auditioned for. Its in the top right corner, opposite my info on the left, in a small and lighter font and it's styled similar to what "news feed" would look online. Never saw it before, know it isn't common--but I ain't common, boo boos,:-) I add it because I don't get cast in new work often enough for my credits to have worthy changes and I want the CD's to know that I'm still active and what caliber of productions and character roles I am seeking. I have received no knowledge that it would be looked down upon, I also kinda don't really concern myself with that; the more info the better, I say. Plus, Jordan Thaler is one MAJOR CD I have a *minor* relationship with. I auditioned for him last week and his name is in that list. And he was all smiles throughout my time. I'd sure as hell be happy to see my name on someone's resume! #CastingBy #YAS

Early in my career, I was cast in several shows that were cancelled. Ever since, I may write an upcoming show on a hard copy resume (marking it as such), but I won’t do an actual resume update until the show opens.

^ do they accept drop offs?

can you ask god if rocktopia is a broadway credit? We're dying to know.

Unrelated: unofficial list into hell is at 69. BUMP

    Fatniss_Neverlean 03/22/2018  8:55am

@kebnyc, I think the reason most people don't do this is because it's highlighting for the people you're going in for just how many people DIDN'T cast you.

    itwillbeme1day 03/22/2018  1:01pm

@itwillbeme1day I am acutely aware of the minor negatives about it, but it’s a list of 3. Professionals CDs know how much everyone auditions and if your resume isn’t changing, it’s obvious you’re not getting cast. I prefer to highlight the caliber of roles I audition for, becuae it sure is shit ain’t $222/week non-equity ensemble. #KnowYourWorth

PS: I will be impressed if you even get to this post becuase WTAF was that info below you???? It never stopped!
