• Good (& cheap...ish) Vocal Coaches in NYC 04/15/2018  9:43pm

I need a new vocal coach in the city who is somewhat cheap (preferably less than $100 an hour but absolutely not more than $150 as I cannot afford that life).

Looking for a coach, I want to focus less on technique and more on acting/beats/finding cuts/etc.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have no idea where to get started finding someone so I'd appreciate any & all feedback! Thx :)

Michael Lavine is great. He's a rep coach and has an amazing collection of sheet music. Plus he's a wonderful coach as well too, really helpful when prepping for auditions

Aaron Jodoin (that's me) offers coachings through SaveMyAudition. My rate is $65/hr plus the cost of a studio. I love digging into songs from an acting/audition standpoint. My availability is listed right on the website and you can pick a time of your choosing.

Jeremiah Ginn is great. I’ve used him before and I know he’s worked as a coach with Actor Therapy. And very reasonable priced if I remember! Try his website to contact him (I’d feel weird posting his contact info on here without his permission).

He is brilliant at picking rep, playing music, even finding the perfect audition cut as well as coaching for a great price. I book online which is easy the only downside can be traveling up to his apartment on E 110th street

I second Michael Lavine because he is HONEST. He will not "YES" you. I worked with him many years ago and I found him to be really helpful. He also sent me a song I needed (by snail mail!) before I ever booked a session with him, and just that act of generosity really endeared himself to me.

David Brunetti is $100/hr including space and a pianist, so he’s fully watching your acting but he knows music like the best pianists. He’s also a genius with finding songs that fit you like a glove that aren’t done often but also not so obscure that casting will be more focused on the cut than on you. And he’s one of best acting coaches for musical theater. And a sweet, kind, supportive soul. And, and, and.

Christiana Cole. Heavy classical background but she can literally sing anything. Very good about everything outside of just “look at me I’m singing” and more about the voice, the sound produced, posture, etc.

Christian Fletcher! I study with him and he has done wonders for my voice. He has a heavy classical background and uses that to create healthy contemporary sound as well. Anthony Ramos studied with him, and so many students of his are working!!! He is also really fantastic working with dancers and creating better support for them. Also for anyone international, he does master classes all over the world and really fights to help international performers find sponsers and performance opportunities to get their VISA. He is $120 for the hour. Definitely reach out to him.

I second David Brunetti. Working with him individually is great & his Acting Songs classes are an amazing place to work on your auditions, new material, etc. Very reasonably priced, small class size and you get to work on a song for 25-30 minutes. Best MT class in NYC!
