Mill Mountain Theatre Launches 2012-2013 Season
Roanoke, VA – Mill Mountain Theatre’s Board of Directors is proud to announce the 2012-2013 Season for Mill Mountain Theatre. Having been “dark” for parts of the past three seasons, Mill Mountain has emerged stronger and is poised to resume its place as the destination for live theatre in Southwest, Virginia.
Starting in April, Mill Mountain Theatre will kick off our professional season with the opening of the Marvelous Wonderettes on the Trinkle Main Stage April 24-May 12, 2013, followed by 39 Steps on the Trinkle Oct 2-Oct 13, 2013 and a holiday production yet to be determined in the newly reconstructed Center in The Square. Mill Mountain theatre will retake its home in the Wells Fargo Auditorium on the Trinkle Main Stage.
Based in Roanoke, VA, Mill Mountain Theatre is a leading producer of professional theatre in Southwest Virginia. Producing entertaining and professional productions for the entire family since 1963, Mill Mountain Theatre has grown into one of the region’s best Equity theatres. Through its historical strength of programming, Mill Mountain Theatre is nationally known for its contribution to development of talent, both on the stage and in musical direction and stage production – providing a theatre experience second to none. Mill Mountain Theatre also takes pride in nurturing tomorrow’s audiences through its youth education programs, serving thousands young people, families, and schools annually. With classes, both during the school year and summer, with theatre professionals, Mill Mountain continues to offer the best one-on-one and in-camp experiences by providing the highest quality performing arts education in Southwest, Virginia. In 1964, two New York producers established a summer stock theater in a vacant resort inn on the highest point in Roanoke, Virginia. Soon dubbed Mill Mountain Playhouse, the company underwent a series of institutional changes, finally incorporating as a not-for-profit, non-Equity resident stock theatre. When the original Playhouse burned down in 1976, the company moved to the recently re-opened Grandin Theatre, an old movie house in an established neighborhood.
Years of planning and building in a new, state-of-the-art home. With the opening of Center in the Square in 1983 came a year-round production schedule and a new name – Mill Mountain Theatre. The growing company’s ever-increasing quality and scope was a major force in the renaissance of a once-dying downtown.
From these modest beginnings grew one of the most respected regional theatres in the US. Mill Mountain Theatre now presents world premieres, dramatic classics, full-scale musicals, youth-oriented productions, and educational classes for all ages – on its two stages in Roanoke, and touring productions that travel throughout Virginia. As a professional, year-round, regional theatre with roots in its community and excellence as its primary objective; MMT has proudly served the region and the industry for almost 50 years.
Within its shops and offices spread across the Center in the Square complex, MMT has created almost 400 productions, including world premieres and regional premieres; the national hit All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten; and the American premiere of Children of Eden.
As a professional, year-round, regional theater with roots in its community and excellence as its primary objective, MMT has proudly served the region and the industry for almost 50 years. We look forward to another 50 years of presenting locally produced world class theatre.

I worked here several years ago and it was wonderful. The housing was particularly fantastic. Congrats on the new season!!!
I worked here back in 2005. I love this place! I'm so happy to see them back on their feet!! Bravo MMT! Great housing and lovely people. Don't miss working here if you get the opportunity!
Just finished a contract at Mill Mountain in Dec 2013. Ginger and Matthew who were the co-directors and also work for the theatre were incredibly welcoming and made it a great place to work. All of the facilities - rehearsal space, stage, housing were top notch! You live work right in downtown Roanoke which has lots of great coffee shops, stores, bars etc. They had a very talented cast, smart/experienced production team and the community was extremely supportive. Nothing negative to say about Mill Mountain, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
